To adhere to the development direction of consolidating Macao as "a hub of exchange and co-operation where traditional Chinese culture prevails and other cultures flourish in harmony", the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and the China National Publications Import & Export (Group) Corporation have jointly organized the 2nd Encounter in Macao—Arts and Cultural Festival between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries: Macao International Book Fair 2019. Given that Macao is honoured as a "UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy", the book fair takes "A Taste of Macao" as theme showcasing the city's rich and varied food and wine culture, as well as the cultural characteristics of Macao, where Chinese and Western cultures blend together harmoniously. Gathering friends from around the world with books, the book fair attracts the participation of publishers from more than 20 countries and regions, including Portuguese-speaking countries (PSC), countries along the "Belt and Road" route, Southeast Asian countries, mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Covering an area of 3,000 square metres, the exhibition hall is divided into six exhibition areas, where you can find various food and lifestyle wine books in one sector, and Chef's Kitchen in another.

Highlights of the book fair include the "24th Gourmand World Cookbook Awards Ceremony". Founded in 1995 by famous food and wine book collector Mr. Edouard Cointreau, the "Gourmand World Cookbook Awards" is famed as the "Oscars" of the world of food and wine. The awards honour the world's best food and wine books and food televisions every year, attracting the participation of publishers, writers, chefs and leading professionals in the field from around the world. In addition, during the book fair, an array of events, including talks delivered by writers, book launches, seminars on China–PSC publishing culture and cookbook publisher salons, will be held to promote in-depth cooperation regarding copyright trading and publishing among Portuguese-speaking countries, countries along the "Belt and Road" route and China, with the ultimate goals to invigorate the book publishing market and stimulate cultural development in Macao.
