Labirinto - Novos Media Interactivos de Wu Dar Kuen

12/12/2010 - 13/2/2011

A solo exhibition by Taiwanese artist Wu Dar-Kuen debuts December 12th at Tap Seac Gallery and will remain on display through February 13th. The exhibition, titled Mi-Lou (a-Maze) - interactive new media, includes an interactive installation, along with a series of photographs taken during Wu’s visits to other countries, such as the US and Japan. The opening ceremony will be held at 5pm this Saturday, December 11th. There will also be a forum preceding the opening, to be held at 3pm in the Cultural Affairs Bureau Headquarters next door to the gallery. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Mi-Lou (a-Maze) is named for a mythical labyrinth attributed to Emperor Yang of Sui (569-618). The Mi-Lou labyrinth was said to be a place where people could indulge their desires. Through this installation, Wu Dar-Kuen addresses the rapid development of cities and other related phenomena. Mi-Lou (a-Maze) has been exhibited around the world in various interactive formats including street performances. By unifying documentation of the various performance cites, the artist has created a work of contemporary art.

Wu Dar-Kuen is an active young artist from Taiwan whose strength lies in maintaining his roots as a village-based artist while performing abroad. Wu enjoys having his street performances filmed, drawing fresh creative inspiration from each video. Wu utilises the street corner as exhibition venue, demonstrating how street corners in various places exhibit a unity of function. Through Wu’s interactive installations, he achieves a dialogue between artist and audience, ultimately analysing a variety of questions, both surreal and down-to-earth.

This Saturday, Wu introduces his Mi-Lou (a-Maze) series, sharing his village-based experiences in different countries and the images he has created from them. The forum will be held on Saturday December 11th at 3pm. Interested parties are invited to make reservations by calling 8399 6699 during office hours. The Tap Seac Gallery is located at 95 Avenida do Conselheiro Almeida Ferreira and is open daily from 10am to 7pm.
