Under the leadership of Music Director and Principal Conductor Lü Jia, the Macao Orchestra begins its 9th Concert Season at a solid, steady pace. With a clear and distinct theme, the programme for the new Concert Season has been cleverly prepared and boasts several stars from the classical music scene as guest performers. On September 4th, the Cuban piano virtuoso Jorge Luis Prats leads the way, opening the 2011-2012 season with the concert “Explosive Virtuosity”, in which he tackles Liszt’s Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 2 alongside the Macao Orchestra on an all-Liszt programme.

The Macao Orchestra, under the patronage of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, is pleased to welcome renowned pianist Barry Douglas for the closing concert of its 2010-2011 Season. For this evening of music, beginning at 8pm on Sunday 31st July in the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium, the celebrated Irish pianist joins the Orchestra under the baton of Principal Conductor and Musical Director Lü Jia. The arrival of an award-winning soloist of this calibre promises a thrilling close to the season’s programming.

On 18th June at 8:00pm, the Macao Orchestra will perform the concert “Twilight of a Great Era” in the Macao Cultural Centre’s Grand Auditorium. The evening of Romantic classics features the Macao Orchestra premiere of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s symphonic masterpiece Symphony No. 2 in E minor and the Macao debut of Italian violinist Paulo Morena, who will perform Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 2 in D minor with Venezuelan conductor José Luis Gómez on the podium.
