 The 15th of the 8th lunar month is drawing nigh and Macao is getting ready to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. On October 3 (Saturday), all eyes will be on the full moon, all mouths will be on the ubiquitous moon cakes and now, the Macao Orchestra invites all ears to enjoy the sound of classical music at the Dom Pedro V Theatre, at 8pm.

 On September 13 (Sunday), the 2009-10 Concert Season Gala Concert brings to the stage of the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium the first and last Chinese conductor appointed by Herbert von Karajan, Tang Muhai, who has earned resounding fame in international music circles over the past two decades.

“Bach’s Cantata”

 The Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. promotes one more chamber music concert by the Macao Orchestra, entitled “Bach’s Cantata”, on 5 September, Saturday, at 8pm, at St. Dominic’s Church. The programme includes the Wind Quintet in G minor, op. 56, No. 2 by F. Danzi (1763-1826), String Quintet in C minor, K. 406 by W. A. Mozart (1756-1791), Salve Regina in A major, D 676 by F. Schubert (1797-1828) and Cantata No. 51, BWV 51 by J. S. Bach (1685-1750).

 Classical music lovers are in for a treat. The Macao Orchestra’s long-awaited 2009-2010 concert season starts in September and, as usual, assembles a host of celebrities, including Fou Ts’ong ‘The Piano Poet’, jazz pianist Makoto Ozone, violinist Huang Mengla, winner of the gold prize at the 49th Paganini International Violin Competition, as well as acclaimed conductors such as Edvard Tchivzhel, Krzystof Urbanski, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Lior Shambadal, among many others.
