China Cultural Heritage Day

According to the State Council directive - “Notice from the State Council on the Strengthening of the Protection of Cultural Heritage” -, issued on December 22, 2005, and in order to create a good atmosphere of cultural heritage protection and to raise public awareness about the importance of safeguarding cultural heritage, since 2006 the China Cultural Heritage Day has been celebrated annually on the second Saturday of the month of June.

Every year on occasion of China Cultural Heritage Day, the Cultural Affairs Bureau organises a series of activities for the general public, including free admission in World Heritage sites and museums, performances in World Heritage sites and exhibitions and lectures, among others, thereby allowing local citizens to be more acquainted with China’s cultural heritage and raising the communities’ awareness regarding the protection of cultural heritage.
